http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/East-Finals-Preview-10-things-to-know-about-Car?urn=nhl,163816 ha, pens in 6 back in 2009. and they get the sweep.

The Yahoo Staff's prognostications were interesting - most of them had the Bruins vs. San Jose in the Finals. neither team made it out of the 2nd round, I do believe. One guy had Pens vs. Calgary. no idea how anyone could have taken that seriously. I can't find the Staff Prognostifications for the 2009 stanley cup east finals of Pens vs. Hurricans, but I bet they have it Pens in 6 for most of the people. At one point in the above article, the writer mentions something like "The penguins have the depth to match up wtih Carolina." hhahahahahahaha.. they destroyed them, wasn't even close. It was like the Ottawa series almost. Too bad they lost game 3 'cause it should have been a broom-buster. At least they'll have a challenge for once starting in 25.5 hours.

Mike wanted to go somehwere to watch the game, but I was thinking of either going to the neighbor's or Sean's. I'd argue going to the big screen, but an 8 pm start kinda ruins that with Andy.

Is this article really form the NHL 'cause I woulda guessed the NBC folks wrote it - being all over Quick's sack and all. Jesus. If I had to listen to that between every period and during gameplay, I'd quickly come to dislike Quick. Which is exactly why people hate Crosby - they talk about him too much. At least, they used to. It's understandable when the player does soemthing that really stands out, but come on - it's not just the goalie making those saves. you gotta have the D and Fs involved. Krejki would be the clearcut runaway winner any other year with a +9, 17 points, 19+ min. a game.. ninja, please! And Chara in 2nd. hahahahaha. suure. ok. I understand Malkin shouldn't be in 2nd like what Yahoo has had since game 3 or 4, but Letang in front of Crosby? Sharp is the only guy in the top 10 from the Hawks.. doesn't look good for the hawks, but oh wait! Only Quick shows up for the Kings. He's gonna get tested, and because of that, I see the Hawks movin' on.

Let's see. Hawks took out Kings 5-2 in the season opener.. in LOS ANGELES! Hahaha won again at home 3-2. Lost 5-4 at home So 2-1 for the 'hawks against the kings.

Pens 3-2, 2-1 at home

3-2 away. 3-0 vs. boston. Doesn't mean much come playoffs, but the big, bad Bruins are injured.. at least 3 Dmen were anyway, and the Pens are healthy. Gonna be a battle, but the flightless birds come out ahead.
http://www.defendingbigd.com/2013/5/31/4383618/2013-nhl-conference-finals-picks-dbd-picks-third-round-winners

what? only one guy picks the Pens to beat the Bruins.. at least one idiot has the Bruins in 5.. haha. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pittsburgh go 2-0 at home, steal a game at Boston, booooom

while i think Bourne isnt wrong about Torres, that hit was a hockey play, fully supported by Stoll himself (the hittee) http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/27/stoll-torres-hit-was-a-hockey-play/

torres probably should have got a little lower, but he went for a shoulder to shoulder hit on a guy who was bent over reaching for the puck.  i dont see anything wrong with it.  a glancing head blow?  wtf doe sthat mean...clearly doesnt line up with the rule of "intentionally  targeting the head and making it hte primary point of contact", it was neither of those two things.

Even the sharks org defended the hit, rightfully so, and got a nice fine for it, haha.  doesnt make sense when the rule was clearly not broken.  good hockey play, play on boys!

Re: [Madness Writers] Re: [Madness Writers] 5/31/2013 07:07:00 AM

good comment on puckdaddy:

This article does not mention two key factors - depth and balance. I did a thorough analysis before the 1st playoff game, ranking the 16 playyoff tams along 13 factors, then totaling the individiual rankings. My #s projected 11 of 12 series so far.

Kings were my #3 team, so I'm not al all surprised to see them in the WC finals. But hawks were #1, and I still see them as the SC Champs.

Hawks were #2 offensively, and #1 defensively and team depth. Pens were #1 offensively, #10 defensively. They improved somewhat defensively when they benched Fleury, but "D" is a team thing and the Pens just don't think defensively.

Hawks are the most likely SC Champs.
---------------------
but then the necessary retort:

Well, I guess there's no point in playing the games then. Who was the most likely Stanley Cup champion last year, Vancouver?

-----------------

The biggest problem facing the Kings is the fact that they'll have to take at least 1 in Chicago to win the series. Not only are the Blackhawks very good at home, but among all 16 playoff teams, the Kings were the worst road team in the regular season and things haven't gotten much better in the playoffs where they've only won 1 out of 6 road games. They're damn near unbeatable at home though, so they could definitely force game 7 where anything can happen.

-----

Im getting pretty tired of the; Quick is the best player in the playoffs talk. L.A. beat St. Louis in 6 and San Jose in 7 calm down a bit. Lets see how he does against Chicago, Boston or Pittsburgh. Its not going to be like last year's lucky title run. (St.Louis, Phoenix, New Jersey)

EXACTLY

---

Usually the better defense and goaltending would be the favorite so that would be the Kings. Home ice advantage could be the difference here for Chicago

Re: [Madness Writers] 5/31/2013 07:07:00 AM

puckdaddy says kings have better D?  id say its about even.  kings might have a slight advantage, but nothing significant.

gonna be a goalie duel the entire series, with an emphasis on tight D.

hawks have better forwards, but its gonna come down to coaching to show  significant differences in scoring.
i'd say chicago but after last series, they gotta step it up. they definitely have the better D and F. not G though

disc golf is always fun. bein' outside is definitely where it's at.

Rask with 0.881%? no way. series over man
gonna be a great series in the West.  im predicting kings in 7.
wow. rask has .881 sv%     im not gonna say series over, but no way boston can compete with that

Re: [Madness Writers] 5/31/2013 05:38:00 AM

yeah, i only use my phone now for internet (jailbroken) for the ipad, usually only at the blood plasma place since their internet hasnt worked in a few months.   and for music on the bike.

i rarely use my ipad, read Reader and sometimes that Foundation series, sometimes put on a tv show while cooking/doing dishes, pretty rare.

rarely use the computer anymore.

its a fact that the more computer usage the worse off people become.  outside is where its at.,  theres a disc golf course a few miles from the house at a park.  18 holes.  actually feels like a real golf course with discs, pretty fun.

worthwhile 9 minutes.

Oh, for Christ's sake.

Chicago was the better team, they were for a whole bunch of the series, and they were last night, too.  They deserved to win, they got jobbed on the no-goal, and NHL refs suck.  If the game went the other way in the same order Wings fans would have been saying the same stupid 'Hockey Gods' crap you're complaining about now.

There.  Cliffs notes version of the post that should have been made, instead.

#4. Fight Club: A Brief Close-Up on a Telephone Gives Away the Ending

[http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/3/5/5/181355.jpg?v=1]Regency Entertainment/20th Century Fox

Fight Club is, of course, full of hints about the big twist (that Edward Norton and Brad Pitt were the split personalities of one guy who just beats the shit out of himself for no reason), and most of them are obvious after the fact. Like when Norton beats the hell out of himself in his boss' office and says that it reminds him of his first fight with Tyler Durden (Pitt) -- it seems like an offhand comment on your first viewing, but is obvious in retrospect.

[http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/3/3/1/181331_v1.jpg]Regency Entertainment/20th Century Fox
We can only imagine what masturbating reminded him of.

However, there's one bit of Brad-Pitt-is-really-a-mind-ghost foreshadowing that we're pretty sure even the most devout Fight Club viewers mining the DVD for senior yearbook quotes didn't pick up on, and that is the freaking pay phone.

The Foreshadowing:

Right after Norton's apartment explodes, he calls Tyler on a pay phone to ask if he can crash on the couch at Tyler's rancid hobo tomb. Tyler doesn't answer, so Norton hangs up. Immediately the phone starts ringing -- Tyler is on the other end, having hit *69 to redial the last number that had called him, because for some reason a man in designer clothing living in a giant decaying shack feels the need to screen his calls.

As soon as the phone starts ringing, however, we are treated to a revealing close-up:

[http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/3/3/2/181332.jpg?v=2]Regency Entertainment/20th Century Fox
"Schizophrenic hallucinations and local calls only."

It's tough to see, but read that line directly underneath the word "TELNEX" -- it says "No Incoming Calls Allowed." Meaning it is not physically possible for this telephone to receive incoming calls. Meaning Tyler cannot possibly have called Edward Norton back. Meaning Edward Norton is standing in a phone booth with the receiver pressed to his ear, having a detailed conversation with nobody. And of course we find out later that's exactly what he was doing.

Granted, none of this explains why a man beating the shit out of himself in a parking lot would attract a group of disenfranchised males asking if they can join him, but that would be the subject of another article.
dang, rags are done. boston pens up next i guess.

LA vs. detroit it's looking like. dang

Canadian guy shoots it directly into the goalie's glove.. so arbitrary man. deciding the victor of a tournament over a 3 man shootout? really? might as well throw a "who can shoot the puck the fastest" competition to determine who moves on.. no difference in skill for a hockey game
One reason you know you're getting older
#1. You Lose the Ability to Be Surprised by Entertainment
When You're a Kid ...

The Sixth Sense was one of the coolest movies I've ever seen. Not because of the main content, but because the ending alone was enough to cement that film in cinematic history. It was brilliant. Fight Club was the same way. Given, the meat of that movie was fun as hell to watch, but the twist was just mind-blowing at the time.

Those little surprises are what make entertainment awesome when you're growing up. I'm not just talking about "twist endings," though. They can be -- and often are -- more subtle. A punchline of a great joke is only funny because you didn't expect it. A horror movie is scary because you never know what's going to jump out at you next. Holy fuck, I nearly shit myself when I saw the first two Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Those twists and turns are what keep things interesting and fresh.

The Warning Sign:

Unfortunately, they abide by a pretty strict formula, and once you've experienced so many of them, they become as predictable as a sunrise. A perfect example of this is BioShock Infinite. Don't worry, I'm not going to give out spoilers.

I bought the game because everyone I spoke to and every review I read said that it was quite literally one of the greatest games ever created<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioShock_Infinite#Critical_reception>. Their biggest praise fell on the storytelling, and I cannot find anyone who doesn't think that it's pure genius.

Except for all of my friends who are my age or older. None of us think it's a bad game, mind you. Hell, none of us really even think it's a bad story. But it is not even remotely close to being the mind-bending benchmark that the gaming world is declaring it to be. The reason for our very subjective, equally worthless opinions is because we've seen these plots a thousand times in a thousand different formats. Half of us predicted the "twist" in that game long before the setup was even complete.

That's not a slam on the game or a "Hey, look how smart and cool we are." It's a prime example of how our age and experience have trained us to read tone, music and visual cues, symbolism, pacing, three-act setup -- because we've played hundreds of games. We've seen hundreds of movies. We've read hundreds of books. We know stories. We know twists. And you will, too. It's not about intelligence. It's about consuming so much for so long that you can pick out the individual ingredients that went into making the cake.

But don't let me scare you. Growing older is a good thing in most respects. I'm just saying that it can sneak up on you if you don't know what to look for. Once you're prepared for it, it's up to you how to use it. Hell, Steven Tyler is like 190 years old, and that dude is still going like age ain't shit.

agree. if this wasn't fatigue—and let's hope it was—this is a 4-0 or 4-1 series loss.

1) Pens
2) Sens

Pens
Pens
Boston
3) Boston
4) Rags

1) Chicago
2) Sharks
Chicago
Chicago
Anaheim
3) Anaheim
4) Kings

This would be the ideal outcome anyway. I could see the Wangs beating the Ducks which would pit CHI vs. DET and LA vs. SJ. I still think it would be CHI vs. SJ and CHI in finals.. Funny, if DET wins tomorrow night, they give a free round to CHI.
1) it's gonna be at least a 6 games series, I'm guessing. Ottawa is much better than the Isles, especially their D and G. Know what though? Pens have the highest scoring rate and i don't see that stopping.

2) Ottawa is slower, but they're probably more physical? NO idea on that, but if they are, that will help Ottawa tremendously.

3) That thing I sent about Orpik's shot hitting the crossbar and then both posts.. that was copied directly from a news source. AFter watrching the shot in real-time and slow-mo

4) I wouldnj't be surprised to See Edmonton and the Islanders in the Finals in a few years.. both young, talented, fast. Only problem is that they need more physical bodies on their teams. That's why the Pens picked up Murray and Morrow. Huge trades man. Iginla steps up for his teammates, too, which can't be overstated.

my predictions for the playoffs.. I'll send them later

gonna rip off a comment here that sums up my expectations:

" The Isles played a fast game with the Pens (which is the Pens strength as well). The will dominate OTT, who are slow, old, and not deep."

can't argue with that.   the ONLY reason pittsubrgh looked like they were in trouble for the Cup is cause of NYI's speed.  now that NYI is gone, it actually should be slightly easier.   not that its easy.  same comment says Penns in 5.  I'll say 6 to be more conservative and realistic..

red wings hate of penguins didnt start til sometime after 2009 SCF. no comments on Kuklas Korner.

bored, lookin up 2009 SCF

after game 3:

I'd love to sit here today, at this moment and tell all of you that this is a great series and it's going to get even better. Pittsburgh is really going to even things up in the next couple of games and force a deciding Game 7, but … I'd be lying.

After watching the first two games and the latest morning skate, I'm worried that Detroit is just too good. I'm not sure if they can be beaten. There's even a chance they might get Datsyuk back for Game 4.

after game 4: n shocking fashion, the champs have taken a standing eight-count.

And the solution to what ails the Wings is not exactly rocket science either: Simplify, simplify, simplify.

On their way to a series squaring 4-2 win, the Penguins took a one-goal lead when Sidney Crosby scored his first goal of the Stanley Cup finals.

Fellow defenseman Mark Eaton nudged Orpik and told him to check out Detroit's bench after Crosby's goal. The players were slumped over. Exhausted. Nothing close to the dominant, immovable force the Penguins saw last year….
Even worse, Orpik said he noticed Red Wings players getting on each other.

Malkin had a goal and an assist for the game, but the damage could have been much worse, as he and fellow dynamo Sidney Crosby started to dominate, just as the sly, talented and seemingly tireless Henrik Zetterberg appeared to start to wear down.

Crosby's like a shark - he smells bloods, he tastes it out there, he's like a predator, and now that he's got that first goal of the series, all bets are off.

Sounds like the Red Wings might have cracked, eh? Please. Not a snowball's chance in you-know-where.

Fatigue Could Be A Factor For Detroit

What the Wings need, of course, is more of a contribution in the physical department from all of their players.

The special-teams issue: The Wings cruised through the first three playoff rounds with an impressive power play that scored 19 times in 74 chances. Now, the Wings are not only struggling through a 1-for-10 slump against the Penguins…

after game 5: wangs 5-0

Pavel Datsyuk's return from a foot injury was just the tonic the Detroit Red Wings needed as they scored three power-play goals in the second period

His return seemed to infuse the Red Wings with plenty of confidence and verve and put a deeper,

Well, so much for that idiotic blog posting by someone the other day that argued that Red Wings' head coach Mike Babcock had been "exposed" by the Pittsburgh Penguins.  As a fan with no specific rooting interest in this series, I can only hope that the return to Pittsburgh on Tuesday night for Game Six results in a Penguins win.Because I wanna see a Game Seven. Because Game Five sucked.

The Red Wings are smart enough to know they haven't won anything and are in for a game Tuesday. Their veterans will benefit from an extra day of rest.

The Penguins, meanwhile, just have to concentrate on winning at home> Bylsma was smart to pull goalie Marc-Andre Fleury on Saturday. He did it at the right time and said the right things to make sure Fleury was not embarrassed.

Though they won only two of them, the Pittsburgh Penguins looked to be the clearly superior team over the first four games of the 2009 Stanley Cup finals.
Then Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings, the league's rightful most valuable player, got in the game.

He is their last line of defence and come Tuesday, he may very well be their last hope.If the Pittsburgh Penguins want their Stanley Cup dream to remain a reality, Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury better be prepared to parry the flurry the Detroit Red Wings will throw at him in Game 6

The showboating and headhunting has no place in hockey. It's obvious Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are the malcontents who run the show and when their game is on they dance and throw it in the face of their opponents.  SOUNDS LIKE THE WAHHHHHMBULANCE

after game 6:

It isn't just that there have been missed calls that is troubling. It is also the alarming lack of consistency. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The words were on the upper level scoreboard that lines the inside of Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh: "It's a Bird Thing."  (Sounds rather gay if you ask me.)

Penguins Must Strike Early In Game 7, (sounds legit)

after the CHAMPIONSHIP RING:

Bottom line: any team that can beat the Red Wings four out of five games when the temperature's above 75 deserves to win the Stanley Cup.  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

Re: [Madness Writers] 5/10/2013 10:40:00 AM

looks like the guy saw the ref calling 24 for a penalty too.

We don't want to do it, but we may have to skate every shift with Murray like we did with Hal Gill in 2009.

what does that mean?  Hal Gill was easily the worst Dman on the team that year, but he was shutdown physical, kinda like Murray I guess.   SLow yet physical.

and tell me why the teammate is yelling at #24 instead of Malkin? hahahahttps://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TldSFQQ25eU/UYxMtd3qHpI/AAAAAAACL7A/1BSVMesliWY/s532/malkinboyes.gif

I'm gonna have Emily record my action, see how bad I am, haha
about crosby's goal:" "I have a feeling this is Bettman's go-to video for times when he's alone and no one is looking."

i'd give the douche credit if it wasn't redundant, seriously ruins  the effort...if someone's alone, by definition no one COULD be looking.  fag.
bored, clearly.  read first few pages of one of the foundation series.  eh, its hard to read fiction anymore.  terrible writing, because its not real events, people, ideas, etc with LAME LAME LAME details, most of the time COMPLETELY POINTLESS.   a king wearing "robes and garb"  are you fucking kidding me?  REAL ENLIGHTENING, anisimov.

he was biting his lip on the hologram but it was hard to see that?  REAL CROWD PLEASER that guy, anisimov.

seriously, how does any of that give me suspsense to keep reading?  im left bewildered at the pointlessness more than the plot/characterization/suspense
everyone on the pens at least 55% on faceoffs, including Malkin.   Vitale with 90%, unbelievable.
game at 7 on saturday, montreal needed to keep the series alive for the pens to move up.  oh well.  better than 430 for me, but not for you
if u look at martin on tavares' three-deke, he's staring at 91's body the entire time, swinging his stick...that swinging makes it look more impressive that what it actually is, because thats 99% perfect D.  tavares does get around him, but thats a good offensive move, not lacking D.  tavares also shoots on his outside leg, which menas less power than his inside leg.  nice save by 92 nonetheless.

"Interesting subplot to the game were Nabokov's flops, neither of which were able to buy a call."  yeah dude, wtf was he doing on those flops, embarrassing.

"If there is one thing Fleury's terrible play has done, it has hidden Nabokov's. What a terrible play he made on the Murray goal."   look at the stats, before last night, fleury was like 3.5GAA, nabby was 4.5GAA.    after last night Nabby's  probably goes up since he was pulled, means less time more goals against.  yep, 4.69, HAHAHAHAHAHA, thats god awful. good thing we got Vokoun Mutata, booom, the Voulskwagen (the people's goalie)

"Pens had some power play at the end, and Bylsma decided it was time for Douglas Murray to see some time as the centerman. Briilliant."  HAHAHAHAH, dont remember #3 out there, hilarious.

and yep, Okposo was nowhere to be seen all night, dont remember seeing him at all.

The Canucks, it seems, are trying to win with a game that's no longer played in the NHL. This game is based on speed, skill, execution and precision, and while these are noble virtues, they're no longer effective or necessary in the NHL.....For the second year in a row, the Canucks were eliminated by a team that might not have been as flashy but were bigger, heavier and tougher.

not sure i agree with that.

penguins have skill, execution, and precision (esp 71, 87, 12, 58, 18 etc), speed (48, 46, 87), and are big, heavy, and tough (4th line, neal, malkin, morrow, orpik, depres, crosby, adams)

you need both categories to win the cup, plus a great goaltender (just as important if not more important)

Monday, May 6, 2013

My parents and I were in Cape Cod one summer, I was about 8 years old. They always tried to impress upon me the idea of being an able bodied, capable human being, and not a baby, even at a young age. So, when I told them that I was incubating a shit-demon of epic proportions that was getting ready to unleash its fury on the general populace, they thought it would be a great time to put this into motion, and told me to go into the nearest building, which was a church, and handle it like a big boy. By the time I got there, I was doing one of those little butt-clenching shuffly walks, just as a precaution in the event that too wide a stride would be met insurmountable gravitational pull, ripping the death-storm down from my stomach, and onto the street, as my sphincter could only sit there, feebly crying at its inability to maintain its contents.

So, I scurried into this little church where they were having a youth meeting, and I meekly asked where the bathroom was, already experiencing cold sweats and shortness of breath from sheer terror. He told me it was down the stairs, and I quickly started to make my way down, all the while feeling what can only be described as an alien being doing its best job at escaping its host. I seriously thought I was about to die from self-combustion. When I got down the stairs, I thought I had reached freedom, but unfortunately for me, the fun was just beginning. The basement was very dark, and all I could make out was about 8 closed doors. It was like a cruel version of shit-filled Russian Roulette. I was about to explode and only had time to try one of the doors, as I couldn't find the light switch. And of course, I guessed wrong, oh so wrong - the door I picked was locked, and wasn't the bathroom. At that point, I knew I had lost. The first dribblings of molten shit began to pour, unabated, down my leg. I tried my best to rip my clothes off, and ended up picking the nearest corner where I commenced what can only be described as a crime against humanity. My clothes were sopped with hot liquid feces, and proceeded to unleash a shit-mountain that was literally the size of the rock I blew up in my driveway. This thing was like a foot high and smoldering. I could not believe my 8 year old body could hold that much. It hit the ground with such force, it ricocheted back up my legs, onto the walls - I'm pretty sure some ended up on the ceiling. After about 5 minutes straight of explosive diarrhea, I was all empty. Unfortunately, my pants were totally destroyed, and I reeked of a sewage treatment plant. It was beyond foul, I almost threw up. Of course, when I finally looked up, I realized the light switch was right there, and found the bathroom about 3 feet away, adding horrible insult to injury. I tried to bath myself and my shit-caked pants off, to absolutely no avail. I panicked. I left my destroyed boxers in the stall, and for some reason, left a mountain of brown goo on the floor. To this day, I don't know why I didn't clean it up...that poor janitor that found that early the next morning. I still think about him....

I then had to concoct my exit plan. I knew I smelled worse than that kid from Slumdog Millionaire, so I decided when I got up the stairs, I would just bolt for the nearest opening, past the kids upstairs, and run to freedom. I did just that, except I picked a door that wasn't really a door, it was a large window without any stairs, and hurled myself into a large bush. I can only imagine the people seeing a shit-stained little kid vaulting himself through a window without saying a word...

I went back to my parents, when they immediately said "what is that awful smell...and why are you completely soaked?" I told them that I had slipped in a huge puddle, and fell directly into a huge pile of dog shit, explaining both circumstances. At the time, I felt like this was a totally plausible explanation, but looking back on it...yeah.

So, that's my story Reddit.

Lambert agrees only 'cuase he's a Pens fan.

yeah, that 4 hit on Malkin was bs.
Cortis is the man!

wahhhhhhhhhh, crosby is too good at boardplay and protecting hte puck that when my player drags him down from behind in OT its a blown call. wahhhh

but if the tables were turned it'd be the most deserving of penalties. wahhhhhhhhhhhh

in real time the only way I knew it was a penalty was because crosby had a horrible scoring opportunity as a result of the D, didnt quite see what the D did but it was clearly a penalty.  then that D guy lays down against crosby on the PP, singlehandedly lost his team the game.  cant say hamodic needed to cover kunitz cuz malkin was probably on the other side of him, but still, someone needed to cover him.

hamodic slamming malkin 4 times without attempting to play the puck, no idea how thats a "hockey play"

surprised ryan lambert agrees.

hahaha, not one wangs fan in support of abdelkader's suspension, "wahhhhhhhhh its such a joke, it wasnt even charging, he didnt "target" the head...wahhhhhhh...we already lost him for most of that game, why add two more?  wahhhhhhhhh

well folks, he fucking head shot him, what more explanation do you need?  check low, through the body you go, or the shanahammer reigns supreme hey ho.

ah, that tweet is by a fake duper.  i guess there's "evil" celebrities all over twitter, twitter is fuckin retarded, that brings its retardedness level up a million notches.

crosby on kunitz' OT goal:  "it was pretty much all him, finding the open spot, getting the shot off"

BS crosby, you know you played a pivotal role!

yep, but i brought clarification.  he could have been hip checked and then hit in the head to be knockedo ut, which would be a "good" hit.  but he was hit in the head first.

JJ on fourth line, looks like he's playing.  figured he wasnt injured.
jokinen or neal playing?
listening to some arabic tv.  news report on art and artists.

one woman, half swedish and half sudanese, has an "art" piece of basically a shoddy windowpane made of 4 pieces of wood on the outside, a long piece through the middle and two short pieces perpendicular to the long to make up the other half of the middle.  one string through the top half and one down the left half.  art?  eighth graders in shop class at least add the shiny coat to have light reflection. haha

it gets better

another "piece" is a white canvas with the words "I am $10000" (really the british dollar sign) with another having the phrase "This is an investment"

too bad its not a joke making a mockery of art, those pieces really are 10000$ and however much else.  Andy could make more meaningful art.

i dont judge very often, but if "artists" arent going to take their profession seriously, why should any prospective buyers give serious consideration?  notice I dont mention any names or link to any sites.  im not giving out free press.   me: 1. blogs/news: -1 (not 0, im taking their points, they dont deserve 'em)

no suspension? you seriuos? i havenj't read the news since this morning. saw crosby was back. dont' even care. that series is over

but dude, no suspension? that was BLATANT
yeah dude, when gybda hits eller in the groin, eller's head is already turned 90 degrees.  suspension or shanajoke swings his hammer of injustice once again.
im gonna go out on a limb and say the Ellers hit, principal point of contact was the head.

why?>

because his head is the first part of his body to get hit.  sure, Grybda or whatever his name is, his hip hits eller's groin area, but his shoulder hits Ellers head before that.

pretty obvious from both angles.   the TSN crew shows the montreal net angle first, and they admit his head looks like the principal point of contact..."but look at the other angle and it shows it wasnt"...I disagree.  his head is still the first thing to gt hit.
I could add more to all of this, but I'm not really interested. Typed it up yesterday at work. Gonna be another boring day today, too. Can 't wait to get the fkcu (intentional) out of here

If my life turned into a movie, my role could be filled by that of Antonio Salieri. He attempts to will himself to play great music but knows that his intellect will never match that of Mozart's. Even though Mozart behaves childishly, he possesses the ability to write great music, something that Salieri desperately wishes he could do himself. I have the passion and motivation to become a great cyclist and/or a great hockey player, but I dont' have the natural ability. Namely, my joints/muscles present a problem. Sucks, man.

fleetwood mac - not much to say, but maybe I do: 1) I thought it was better than Dave Matthews. Maybe the fact that we were able to sit the whole time? I couldn't see DMB last July, and my back was hurting to the point where standing wasn't comfortable. I'm sure it was a good concert. 2) Good music. Probably even better if you're into that 70s/80s rockish music. A great concert for people who worship that guitarist/lead singer, Lindsey Buckhingman. He puts the passion into the guitar, though I'd have to argue his skills probably aren't all that impressive when up against the top guitarists. Then again, he gets paid to play music all day. 3) The drummer (Fleetwood) had an accent when talking so I figured he was British. Looks like he is. Could use some internal vibes to get his solos more tuned to his passion. Good, but no Carter Beauford. Not even a contest.

Is it the Samsung Galaxy 3? That phone is frickin' huge, man. at least a 4" screen, if not 5. Ridiculous. Some girl was holding one at the Pens game last night. Might as well replace 7" tablets with those. Dang, 5" screen, 1080 x 1920 resolution. Sign me up. I might tell Emily to get rid of her phone, let me get a 3G/4G phone, and she gets a crappy phone like mine, haha.

One time in college, fall of 2004, when playing Ultimate frisbee, I was definitely the lone wolf on the team. Maybe I send out an encoded messaged with my body language telling people not to talk to me, 'cause nobody really ever did. The one guy, don't remember his name but I have his mental picture stamped in my brain down to the crooked upper teeth, told me one time during dinner, something we did immediately after practice, that I looked like I was going to kill somebody. I was staring at the TV in the cafeteria feeling extremely tired when he told me. I asked him, "Really?" to which he said yeah. I didn't realize others got that impression.. "I'm just tired, man." Which was true. Another time in 2010 at work, I remember thinking "I wanna get outta here, go home, go do something that feels productive rather than faking it." Didn't say anything to anyone, just went along my day. Out of nowhere, the secretary said something like, "You never say anything, Ryan. I never know whaty ou're thinking." That's how I like it, so I told her. No big deal to me. She said I was mysterious 'cause of that, and maybe she said I was creepy. Who knows. Who cares. The only thing I got out of it was that people get that impression of me without saying anything. In 2008, probably November, the clinical instructor in nursing school made a statement along the lines of, "We didn't think you knew what you were doing because you never speak up." I have nothing to say, yo.

observe people more than i take action myself

At my job, I feel like an insignificant peon. no motivation or ambition to go anywhere with it. Obviously dont feel much, if any, connection to it. I rarely sit with patients and talk to them.. only when I'm sick of reading articles/hockey/news I'll do it. Last Friday, I had a 24 year old female so I went in, sat down, and talked with her for probably 20 minutes. She was happy to have the company, and I didn't have to wonder about what I was going to be doing. Sitting around sucks.
I have little interest in wanting the responsibility of doing a lot of the stuff here. It's just mundane, pointless tasks. Unless I'm dealing directly with the patient, it's not even remotely close to important to me.

Retreat into myself when not interested in environment. Mostly because it if tv is around itll get my attention, taking the focus away from me. Music does the same thing.. it's just a distraction. This occurs with reading, at times. Pretty much anything that takes the focus off of my thoughts and isn't mentally/physically exhausting.

Everybody feels existential guilt - the feeling that we are not living up to our own individual standards, morals, values, beliefs, etc. - to some degree. Maybe these standards are influenced by others in society, parents, education, etc. Doesn't really matter, though some people can influence it more than others. Specifically, those that we are closest to emotionally, physically, spiritually, whatever. I'd like to use an analogy with hockey to make this easier to understand, but some kind of ball sport should be used instead. So if the existential guilt is the pressure inside a basketball, the protective covering represents the mental shell that we build around ourselves. Our defensive mechanisms, perhaps? When our conscience pierces through the defense mechanisms and we think about our previous actions/behaviors, we realize that we our not living up to our own code of life, our moral playbook, so we can do some stupid stuff. However, whatever caused us to pierce the defense mechanism did not cause the guilt.. it only brought it into our conscious thoughts.
The best example I have about myself is that I rationalize the amount of time spent reading by thinking "I enjoy reading and learning about new ideas" when, in reality, it's an escape from my life. When I realize this, it helps me to understand that I could be achieving something, working towards something more productive, spending time iwht family, etc.
It's quite easy to avoid thinking about the guilt we have about ourselves. Use more defenses, play more social games, build thicker skin, avoid thinking about our past. Nobody wants to live unhappily. Hedonism at its finest. If we don't think about it, it doesn't exist, it doesn't bother us, we can focus on the stuff that matters.
This is like a frickin' lecture from a professor - completely abstract. But it makes sense from a practical standpoint.
THis is all why I don't consider myself a perfectionist - as perfect as I would like to be at anything, I realize it's nearly impossible unless a lot of effort is applied. This means more time spent on the task, something that to me will almost guaranteed be pointless since I won't care enough about it to put the effort into. Most things just don't interest me.

Something interesting that I've always thought about is that people are 'free.' But are we really? I'd say no, we aren't free. Cultural and social expectations are constantly influencing our decisions. Our parents, teachers, friends, coworkers, etc. These expectations tell us to do what previous generations have done - work, marry, have children, buy a house, a car, live by the same values. Wow, that's an exciting life! (sarcasm) Some of it is. It's like we have to work to buy the house and car and have the kid so that we can have bills to pay so that we work... to pay the bills, a self-perpetuating life in motion. Why can't we just be free? Free from technology, from expectations, from ourselves every once in a while, from our responsibilities? Lots of stuff has been written about this. It's one of the biggest reasons why I have always admired those that break away from tradition. It's such a huge risk that, even if it doesn't work, the person can say that they tried. When people in life do odd things, unless it was crazily stupid, I kinda look up to them for sticking true to themselves. who cares what others think? Too bad this type of thinking permeates our society, though.
A big point in life is to stay busy. Working long hours is probably the easiest way to do this. Hobbies and raising a family come in second and third, no specific order. From my experience, by being busy, I don't think about how much my life sucks (it really doesn't, but at the same time, yeah it does). (Which is one huge reason my job sucks.. I'm not busy a lot of the time. TOo much free time, too much time to think.. i can't say it gets old so much as it's just not me.) We can through the cycle of life, the daily routines, completing relatively meaningless tasks without much of a regard for why we're doing it. There is no why. It's what occurs to avoid the meaningful stuff in life.
Why do I read? Why did I play videogames so much when I was younger? Why do I play hockey? Why do I go to the gym? To escape reality. Though I love playing hockey and going to the gym, the physical rush, the adrenaline, the release of endorphins. They're just mental blocks, walls I put up to avoid living. THey're excuses for avoiding the responsibility of being free. I can't say reading is a complete cop-out, but videogames definitely are. Although I enjoy the competition and beating others in competition, I don't need it. (And I can't say that losing hurts my ego. I know how good I am at something, enough to know whether I should win or not anyway.)
Basically, we need to create meanings for our meaningless lives by remaining skeptical of all preconceived notions of how to live, not caring what others think about us, pursuing at least one major goal in our lives, and focusing on ourselves. Not in a completely selfish way, though.
I have never had a desire to ever be widely known or famous. No longing to remain 'immortal,' and in fact, I live my life to avoid it. 'cause I realize it's just playing into the rules of society. Who cares? Really, who does?
Maybe having a child would create something to live for, but I always knew that was a farce for me. Not for everybody, though. It does provide joy, a future, something to come home to, another person to help in our quest of life. In actuality, it's probably the closest I'd ever get to having real meaning in my life. I feel worthless, like a 160 pound sack of potatoes thrown into a 10 pound body. I'm not saying I don't want Andy. Just saying that it won't be my ultimate happiness.
The closest I think I'd ever come close to having meaning in my life is by helping others. And not in a nursing sense. I meaning helping others achieve their goals and dreams in life. I'm not talking about missionary work, either, though I could see myself doing that yearly. It has to be something more permanent, sort of like a pastor, a priest, the townsfolk who take a genuine interest and possess the dedication and motivation to interact with others, help them achieve something. Could be anything from rehabbing an injured joint to completing high school to going to college to getting a job to becoming the next President. Why not? Why don't I do this, then? I have no reason not to. No excuses, no reasons. Nothing. I just don't. Obviously, it's something I need to do.

Anesthesia school will be the biggest career move I'll ever make, most likely. Nursing isn't for me, and I knew that going in. It wasn't a preconceived notion that I used to fit the bill - I enjoy helping people, but the bureaucratic and administrative stuff, to me, is crap. Plus, a lot of the mundane tasks we do can really turn me away from it. It's not bad for the most part, but it does not fulfill me much, if at all. At this point, I might as well go into a field of nursing that I will enjoy the most and make the most money. I don't care about money, but it will help later on. Why not make more money for the same amount of time working? Especially at a more interesting job. Then again, maybe I"ll decide to become the head of an anesthesia school at some point since I'll have a doctorate in Applied Management or Anesthesia Management or whatever? Who knows. Still won't be as big of a decision as starting school. (Too many prospective students complain that they won't have any money and will come out in a huge hole of debt, won't be able to work during school. It's either that or suffer in a nursing job that they don't want to do the rest of their lives.)
haha, quick. good one.

read your email. Wish I could play. I don't think I'm gonna play hockey next week. My back feels really tight, makes no sense. Probably from working yesterday. Not gonna get any better after working today, that's for sure.

Yeah I saw Detroit won in OT. Ottawa will probably win their series. No idea about Rags - Craps. I'd like to see the Rags win. As long as either Rags or Ott wins, it ain't matta. means we don't have to play Boston in the 2nd round.

holy shit, anaheim came back and tied it, went to OT.  wings won, but damn, that would have been a great game to finish watching.

kings losing their crown pretty "quick"   YEAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

played some rea hockey, lot of guys saying i hustle the entire time.  maybe i do, i dont know.  i wasnt backchecking a whole lot, we had 7 guys total, good thing I Didn't play last night, would have never made it after the 1st period tonight.

third period I get the puck near left D blue corner, wide open all around me up to the goalie.  skate in the slot, looking at net whole time, dangling, shoot it lower mid right from mid slot.  goalie barely got a piece of it.  man, would have been a sweet goal.  no one ever gets those kinds of opportunioties outside of a breakaway.  it wasnt a breakaway, there were people all over the ice, but no one around me.

i had a nice one timer from low mid slot, hit the shortside post, got the rebound, couldnt put er home.

first period im coming up the RW side, cross the blue and immediately pass to LW F, he shoots, goes wide to my side, i snag it up and tap er home.  too easy.

tied 4-4, won in a sootout.

the other team, who I usually play for, said they needed me.  they had like 10 people, we had 7.  it would hve been 11versus6, I wanted everyone to get more playing time.  we would have crushed a 6 man team.  it was hard enough with 7 men.  I played 16-17 min a period, too much man.  people were changingforcing me to stay on the ice.    i was probably 15/18 on faceoffs...rough guestimate.

ott over montreal.

caps gonna beat NY, no idea why the rags are shitty, marc staal isnt that good and not that much oif a game changer.

detroit winning 3-0, the case of a hot team versus a cold team.  detroit isnt making it past the 2nd round, no way in hell.

ill write more tomorrow.

hahahahahaha, so true

21. Asked one Eastern Conference coach how the Islanders could beat Pittsburgh. His reply: "The Penguins are the most physical team in the Eastern Conference, hard to play against, with good speed. It's incredible how hard everyone plays. If you are not willing to stand up…it is tough on you. Pittsburgh really imposes their will on you in the first five-to-seven minutes in their own building. The Islanders do have good puck-moving defencemen. If those 'D' can get the puck before the forecheck, that's how they can play with them."

The Cole's Notes summary of their conversation:

Elliotte: "How can the Islanders beat Pittsburgh?"

Scout: "Pittsburgh is amaaaaazing."

Elliotte: "…"

Scout: "…I guess they could be quick with their breakouts? Then they could at least play with them."

Welp, that series is over.
