reading 2001 a space odyssey. 20% of the way through and this book gets a universal TWO THUMBS WAYYYYYYY DOWN! the first 15% or so is complete shit. sets up the story but there's absolutely no other point to it. then the main story comes into focus with absolutely awful prose (if you could even consider it that), pointless dialogue, all in the attempt to get to the main steak. at least the dialogue in Atlas Shrugged serves a purpose.
ok, Newspad replaces newspapers and presumably magazines. Basically an automtically updating tabet for newspapers. in '68, i could see that as a premise for sci fi.
this might have been a great book in '68, but it's outdated fo sho.
here they had been turned to the purposes of peace. After ten
thousand years, man had at last found something as exciting as war.
Unfortunately, not all nations had yet realized that fact.
Wow, such insight, Clarke!
I'm skipping over any of the details like 'this happened,' 'he's going there,' 'the room was setup like such' . it's terribly written. carve a better scene out of a banana.
After about 40%, it's getting into the meat and potatoes of sci-fi. Jesus, why'd it take so long? I'll have to read its ome other time though.
