wow, what a finish.

great job keeping the puck in, awesome poke check by somebody at center line to save the game, a lot of whacking at thin air to hit the loose puck, hah.  great ending.

the Pens have a unique style of play.  When they cycle the puck, they get a lot of shots from that LW spot where STamkos likes to get one timers from and where TK likes to shoot from when he's wide open.  Staal just got one, and I've seen it a lot.  It's a tough angle to get a great shot, but man, Staal coulda gone forehand shortside cheese and the goalie wouldn't have had a chance.  Oh well.  That Bourne article on PuckDaddy today was actually good, talks about confidence and not thinking the other guys are better than what they really are.  I know it'd be helpful advice for a lot of rec league players, including myself.  Just gotta take chances, sometimes.

yeah, afghanistan is all mountains in the north, take a look at a map
sometime. those are huge mountains, no one can control that. not
the taliban, not the us, no one.

third poorest nation in the world. we don't gain shit from it. they
just send in a byunch of foreign insurgents to do the fighting. i cant
say theres no reason to be there, but theres very little.

n ot the greatest documentary, but not bad. some of the reviews are

hey man, watch restrepo.. definitely shows why we're screwed in afghanistan.  I'm not even sure how you'd go about winning that "war"   I doubt anybody does.  good documentary.  Interesting characters.  The guy that smiles when talking reminds me of the guy in Shoah that always smiled until he talked about something that wasn't funny.  He said something like "What am I supposed to do, laugh or cry? Laughing is better."  SOmething like that.

Also, watch "The War Tapes".. evidently it's National Guards with digital cameras in Iraq.

And "Armadillo"  haven't looked that one up yet

this game, i dont know man. too hard in some spots.  it's only 'cause there are too many enemies to fight in one battle.  take away one enemy and it would be a more fair fight.. probably still hard, but not impossible.  

i dont have time to fight one battle 20 times, at least not when this happens to multiple battles in one quest.

Comrie, eh, we'll see how he does.  Pensblog I think said he played 19 games before his injury.. November 23rd or around there.  I thought it was only 9 or 10 games.

Oh, that tornado, yeah I didn't mention that.  there was a tornado by Hempfield High school on.. WEdnesday I think.  Hail the size of golfballs, literally.  Emily was napping on the couch, I was making dinner, and all of a sudden all I could hear was a lot of eggs hitting the roof, sidewalk, driveway, and road.  Look otuside, and huge snowflakes were falling like rocks.. take a closer look, and it's hail.  I woke Emily up to look at it, and she actually went outside after it was done, brought three of 'em in.  Two were the size of a golfball, one was like 2 golfballs.  Huge stuff.  Then, the tornado hit around Hempfield high school. this game is all defense.  Good game.  Pens have more chances.  Kovy in the slot, wide open and receives a pass but had no momentum, shot it pretty weak for an NHL player right into Bobrovsky.  TK had another wide open from the slot shot, no dice.  Flyers almost got another lucky break, but nope.

wow, Neal with a huge wide open shot, goes wide, Kovy gets it and puts it into Bobrovsky again I think.  SHoulda been a goal.

Jeffries hurt.. can't get up.. on his knees.

dragon age

fun game.  really just an extension on Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights wtih tactics that don't really seem to work the way I'd like them to.  And the different views, but I only use the helicopter view, down in the acdtion gets too messy.

Played about 1.5 hours tonight, got through one part.  The action is by far the best part of the game.  Although, if you try to take on whole groups of people, it'd be hard.  When I encounter a group of enemies, I try to get half or less to come after me.. it's kinda lame 'cause you can con the game.  At one point, you get 5 party members, but you can never have more than 4.  It could be possible, but it'd be a lot of pausing to have each member do what you want them to do.  WIth only 4 people, there's a lot of pausing.  It'd be a fun multiplayer game, but with the fast-paced games these days, I couldn't see it being very popular online for coop.  Then again, there'd be no pausing needed, just good communication.

gotta work the next 2 days.

Other things that happened during the game:

- Somehow the puck got turned over in the offensive zone, with me getting the puck.. there was a defensemen in front to my left, a teammate 20 feet in front going to the goal, and a defensemen behind him (he turned it over to me).  So once the puck comes to me, I quickly passed it to the teammate but it was too hard of a pass.. I tried to do it so it would go to maybe 10 feet in front of the goalie and stop so he could pick it up and get the easy shot.  Ah well.

- Dished out 2 one-timers from the goal line.. both passes went higher than expected.. first one-timer, the teammate was wide open, he hit the puck out of the air and it bounced to the goal, but the goalie somehow got it.. no idea how, the puck bounced pretty high.

- Won one faceoff by faking forehand and going backhand right before the ref dropped the puck.. the other faceoff guy had no clue what I was doing, so I won that one pretty easily to the RD.  

- Won another faceoff by going forehand, turned my body into him and quickly dished it to the LD.. it was so quick that he almost didn't get it, had to immediately put his stick down.  I wouldn't have expected it either.

- At least two of the faceoffs that I 'lost' went to my RD 'cause I'd go backhand and the other guy would go forehand.. he'd hit it forward instead of backwards.

6 minute shifts are no joke, man.  No way you could do that on a consistent basis and be effective.  

We were up 2-0, then tied 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 4-3, then it went to 6-4.  I was out there for the final 1.5-2 minutes, got in front of the goalie with maybe 30 seconds left, teammate takes the puck from the RW side up to the RW point and cuts across the top of the circles, shoots it down on the ground and must have went 5 hole.  Goalie never saw it.  I never saw where it went, but I saw it go in the net.  7-4, game over.  No idea how that team got ranked 3rd.  We beat 'em 7-1 the first time, and 7-4 this time.  They have one of the better players on their team.

- An opponent took the puck up the LW side, a teammate poked the puck, and I got it since I was trailing the play.. another teammate comes over to get it but sees that I got it so he takes off, so I quickly backhand it to him.. perfect pass that went between 2 Dmen and in front of him, so he could keep his momentum.

- At the very end of the game, I reached out really far to stop a pass on the forecheck, and I ended up running into the guy, hitting him with my left shoulder.  Luckily I was wearing tshoulder pads.  However, I got thrown into the air, stick came outta my hand, landed on my back or left side or something, I don't know, I didn't feel it with all my pads on.  

Fun stuff.  Oh yeah, it's nice that we won, 'cause we have next week, and then the week after, they have the free evaluation , so even if we lose next week, there's free play the week after.   And then the next season starts the very next week.  So no breaks.  Maybe it would have been nice to lose last night just so I could take off the next 2 weeks to make sure my back stays good.

dragon age

downloaded the demo for dragon age 2, its pretty much a 3d version of
baldur's gate, pretty sweet. pretty hard too, the part I got to, then
i stopped cuz i figured i dont want to spend forever playin a demo
when i could play the real thing.

it works well with our computer, it forces the computer to use
DirectX9, u'd need a DirectX10 compatible video card to use Directx11
for all the great graphics...really, i dont know how much better it
would look, it plays smooth, loads fast. i didnt have any problems
iwth it.

its better than mass effect (a lot more action, its basically 85%
action, a little bit of dialogue, a cut scene here and there, and a
few seconds of loading every once in a while.

download dragon age origins man. i hear the first is a helluva lot b
etter than the 2nd, i guess the action micromanagement sucks in 2, a
lot easier and dumbed down. i dont know, u can set up some really
good tactics for your teammates (would be too hard to explain in
writing) based on situation or a general tactics, and u can link em
together, its pretty sweet. and like Knights of the Old Republic a
lot of people say its easier to payse the game during fights to
micromanage. probably, cuz that hard part i made it to was pretty
rough. not sure what i could have done differently though.

let me find a torrent.

and im trying to Root my phone (basically get adminstrator rights like
in Windows) so i can set up this free wifi rather than playing money
for it a month (or 10 one time fee for this other program). plus i can
do a lot more with hte phone if i wanted, not that i really care, i
just want the free wifi tethering.

taped up my 2 new sticks and got the new blade on.  It's sweet, man.  Can't get any straighter.  only got 19 pucks, got jipped by one.  They weigh a bit more, but it's not really that noticeable.  Probably is when shooting and puck handling.  The shooting board doesn't seem to be the greatest.. definitely not like ice, but it'll work for shooting.  vinyl tile flooring and roller pucks is where it's at.

Too bad I can't play for a few weeks. Or whenever my back is better, hopefully sooner.

went to physical therapy and the doc.  ordered some motrin, nothing exciting.   Physical therapist said my spine at the bottom is rotated to the left.  No wonder I have pain.  (Can't be from hockey, because I have to twist to the left to shoot, so it's obviuosly from lifting patients.  Makes sense to me, but I didnj't ask about that.. not giving any hints of hockey in case they want to revoke the worker's comp. If it was rotated to the right that could possibly be hockey related from the c onstant rotation when shooting/passing)  Better go away is all I can say. I 'm not dealing with that the rest ofm y life.  I'll ask them tomorrow about recommendations for playing sports.  Keep in vague so they dont know.

that nucks sharks game reminds me of the flyers caps game from october of the 09/10 season when the final score was 8-7.  Goals galore.  That one play with two breakaways was awesome, and the one guy on the SHarks who took the puck in and got a breakaway after beating 4 guys, that was amazing.  Wasn't really a breakaway, but it might as well have been.

yeah there were a few times i'd get sick of hockey. usually if i was
too tired, (at the lats Iron Man I stopped playing after 4 games cuz i
was too exhausted. took the bus home, got food, walked up the hill,
ate, and passed out, around 7, woke up at 10 the next morning or so.
the kid, 12, pretty damn good and could compete against the good guys,
wanted me to stay and play wit hthe team. but i was done man. i felt
bad, but i had nothing left. i believe i was catching an illness,
too, cuz our goalie said i sounded like my throat was sore. that was
already happening for 2 weeks), and sometimes for open skate if the
people didnt show up or , especially, no goalies, i hated it.

thats why i cant wait to get to gordon. the people here, while
decent, its the same people, 2 decent people who play way too hard and
make it a 1 on 1 (or if its both on the same team, i usually dont play
very hard so we can end that game quicker. tho last time we only
played an hour or maybe 45 min). and we play on concrete with a chain
linked fence above the boards., just not the same. im not gonna dive
on concrete or skate hard into the "boards" and get cut up by teh
fence. ive hit it a few times and its not fun.

I don't nkow, I feel tired all the time and today it really made me not feel like I wanted to go.  Add in the fact that I felt not many people were gonna show up, and a lot of the guys aren't very good.. it gets frustrating and feels like a waste.  We played for maybe 30 minutes before the high school kids practiced, and I was on the shit team.. only one other guy could do anything, but he's not that good.  so I would take the puck up myself, and, since i rarely ever had anyone to pass the puck to, I would go around the net and either pass to the point, or end up losing the puck (gotta work on that backhand-on-the-puck-while-skating-and-turning-right, it's not that bad, could be a bit better).  The other team had 4 good kids.. so even the goalie was sayin to them "you guys gotta switch up teams.. I like blocking all these shots and all, but it's not fun for the other goalie."  I was thinking screw that, it's not much fun for anyone.  Well, the goalie would be havin' fun stopping shots, I guess.  We took their best player, not sure why, I said to give us another player who wasn't as good but still good at hockey.

why would that best guy even consider moving u two back to your
respective positions?

do your teammates ever get in the crease/slot and screen? that was
pretty much my only position on offense, unless a teammate was
looking to pass and then Id move out to get more open. the guys in CA
would tell me to play more rough after a shot, to get in the goalies
face and whack at rebounds. a lot of times thje goalie would glove or
cover the puck, no rebound.

quick game update
