that War b ook. eh, I read 199 pages. that's how bored i am. Most of it isn't that exciting.. this happens, that happened, blah blah blah. no real descriptions, no real thought-provoking stuff.

Reading "War" by .. Sebastian Junger, I can send it to you if you want.437 pages i think... it's the basis for that Restrepo movie.  Decent read so far.

One was a sergeant named Hunter, who managed to be both very
cynical about the Army and also a very good soldier. I
was under fire with him once, he was leaning back
against some sandbags saying things that made
everyone laugh while sniper rounds went schlaaack
over our heads. "We call him Single-Shot Freddy," his
sniper rap went. "We believe he is a blind Afghan man
between the ages of sixty-five and seventy..."
Hunter was known throughout the company for his
pantomime of Single-Shot Freddy. He'd pretend to pull
himself up a hillside along an imaginary guide rope, all
the while muttering, "Allahu Akhbar," and then
unlimber the rifle from his shoulder and feel along the
stock for the bolt. Sightless eyes turned heavenward,
he'd jack the bolt back, chamber an imaginary round,
and fire. Allahu Akhbar! He'd work the bolt and then
fire again. I asked Hunter why he thought the sniper
was blind. "Because he hasn't hit anyone yet," he
replied.

Yeah I can't beat lvl 14, missiles didn't help me. I'll figure it out, and yeah, first twenty levels should be skipped

bennett gonna be a top 6 forward i guess? we'll see about that. they'd be stupid to get rid of dupers, though. re-signed kunitz, need to get 1/3 of that top NHL line back in action. I don't see Bennett on it.

Creators David Lynch and Mark Frost were tight-lipped, but when ratings dropped in the second season and the killer was revealed to try to pull in more viewers, two things became known:

             1. Lynch and Frost had never wanted to solve the mystery, ever.
             2. Lynch and Frost were making it up as they went along.

Sounds like Lost, where 1 becomes reality.

The beautifully shot but structurally pointless "Fly" episode is a case in point; any episode that causes a critic to gush over "the Aristotelian unity of time and place" immediately deserves suspicion.

yeah, that was a "neat" episode but rather pointless. nowhere near as bad as the spider episode of Lost though, where I almost gave up right then and there. hung in a few more episodes.

This is the mantra of the self-loathing hack: "I can't believe people buy this shit!"   haha

tanger gone. 54 million isnt good enough for ya?  looking for ..what, 8 million more?  you are the weakest link, goodbye.

gives the pens enough money to get some good D, wingers, and build a better team.

You can use this number for magicJack to magicJack calls or have others call you from anywhere, like so:

i tried the one level i beat easily using a different strategy.  those winged bastards got me almost every time man.  i built a ton of machine guns and 3-4 lasers, never had a problem with the wingers, but the fast ants were getting me.  i used some of the bombardiers, guess i gotta use some missiles now to combat the wingers.

fun game.

Overall, almost one-fifth of the total job growth since the recession ended in mid-2009 has been in the temp sector, federal data shows. But according to the American Staffing Association, the temp industry's trade group, the pool is even larger: Every year, a tenth of all U.S. workers finds a job at a staffing agency.

On average, temps earn 25 percent less than permanent workers.

This guy's argument fails big time.  I can't really put my finger on it, but I'll say this - going a bit slower than traffic to kill a traffic jam is only going to allow more cars to get in front of you. And you're not killing the traffic jam.. you're still getting to your destination at the same time but moving more of that time. so what?    Sure, the idiots that weave in and out of traffic and pass a few cars to get ahead are only wasting their gas and break pads, but they're going to continue to do it.  Why do I do it when I do? because the  person in front of me with 100 feet btween them and the car in front is going to allow 20 cars in front of them by the time i get to the tunnel .  I might be moving at a constant speed, but I'm losing time.  20 cars isn't a big deal, but it's frustrating 'cause every other  driver can maintain a 20-30 foot distance between each other with no problem.  Rarely do I see cars do ridiculously stupid stuff, but it happens. Just to get 5 seconds ahead.
level 8 is hard.. I made it to wave 50 of 50, the damn bees took out my control tower thing. It wasn't even touched until then. I have it figured out now, though.

all 5 goals against Chicago were on Crawford's glove side.  but, i say one was literally deep in the crease, the puck bounced off the back boards back into the crease...fluke goal. the 4th goal was tipped slightly by a hawks D.  crawford had it saved if not for that.

the first i believe was terrible D by the hawks...let Thornton in the crease all alone. there was a ton of talk about the glove side, but really 3 of those shots would have went in blocker side as well.

When a reporter asked Bush to name his biggest mistake since 9/11, he replied:

I wish you'd have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it. . . . I'm sure something will pop into my head here . . . you just put me under the spot . . . and maybe I'm not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one . . .

There's no need to multiply the examples of gaps and gaffes—which are not aberrations in the speaking style of the far right but rather its basic unit of composition. Their linguistic world is that of the anti-Extemp, where failures in fluency are marks of authenticity, ignorance is often a point of pride, and tautology supplants cogitation. Romney, earlier this year: "I'm not familiar precisely with exactly what I said, but I stand by what I said, whatever it was."

"What we see is an increasing level of activity on the networks," he said at a recent security conference in Canada. "I am concerned that this is going to break a threshold where the private sector can no longer handle it and the government is going to have to step in."

WOw. really? Sounds like somebody trying to hold onto his power.

Flyers just got stronger:

Streit and Flyers agree on 4 year contract.
26. The best news for the future of the Penguins is that GM Ray Shero was allowed to fight for his vision. Mario Lemieux has more hockey knowledge in his toenail than most of us in our entire bodies, but unless he wants to run the hockey operations, owners have to let their GMs make the decisions. There were a lot of rumours that Lemieux wanted a coaching change. Shero did not. He fought to keep and extend head coach Dan Bylsma. Lemieux allowed it. That is the way successful organizations work.

27. I'm also not surprised the Penguins won't buy out Marc-Andre Fleury. Malkin's eight-year, $76-million extension (and Kris Letang's potential deal) doesn't kick in until next season. You have another year to see if a new goalie whisperer will revive Fleury's game. If it doesn't work, the buyout is less. And Tomas Vokoun proved he can carry the load.

i HATE when i see "full" i nregards to a statistical percentage.  here's a perfect example of how fucking stupid that word is:

A full 3.5 percent of children younger than 18 will lose their mother or father, according to the Social Security Administration

What the fuck? how is 3.5 anywhere near statistically relevant so as to be "full" ?

wow, lets take a real look at therrien. he's 1-4 this year with montreal.  he was 14-6 (lost 2 games before th Final) with the Pens in 2008..  so now he;s 15-10.  OH MY GOD HE'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN BYLSMA.  BRING BACK THERRIEN! NOW!

i copied and pasted that comment to that blog.  that guy's a chump.  and the one guy saying to keep Bylsma, fan's perspectives need to change.

No. &#$* that.  bylsma has PROVEN he can not adapt.  lost to the lightning WHILE UP 3-1. i dont care if there was no malkin or crosby.  NHL playoffs are a team sport.  lets take a different approach: add malkin and crosby that year.  no way they would have won the cup that year anyway.  Fact.

montreal had a hot goaltender in 2010?  so what, tuuka rask wasn't "hot" this year.  Bruins D was much better, allowing Rask to stand on his head.  If the Bruins D was on the Pens team, Vokoun would have won 4 games as well.  The pens got outplayed and more importantly, outcoached.  if a team is preventing your team from scoring, you gotta adapt.  Play more stringent D and waiting for hte O to happen, not forcing it.

I will say the bruins series the pens hit some posts, had some bounces that didnt go their way, but overall they proved to me they deserved no place in a SCF.

does bylsma tell malkin and crosby to make stupid passes, or letang to pinch?   in a nutshell: yes.  He allows it, he's the coach, he doesn't provide a backbone for the team to play a fundamental game.   I'm sick of crosby's forced passes ending up on opponent's sticks.  He's the best player in the world.  The amount of times he gives up the puck is mind-boggling.

Bylsma doesn;t reign in his players, doesn't act like a strong fundamental coach.  I actually have zero cares for the Pens next year.  If they win a cup, good on them.  I don't see Pens winning anything, they can only prove me wrong at this point.

dang, 132 attempted shots? jesus. only 85 for the bruins, they're good on O but not good enough. who's gonna win the conn smythe? i'm saying the goalies. no forwards are making a case other than possibly Krejci. but he's not good enough. I was looking up his stats last week 'cause he seemingly came outta nowhere. he's not even a point per game player in the regular season..

The Blackhawks had 132 shot attempts in Game 1, compared to 85 for the Boston Bruins. That's far too much time with the puck for Chicago if you're Boston.

yeah, this game wasnt close very much.

hilarious everyone on puckdaddy has boston in 6 or 7.  chicago is clearly taking the cup. Chicago has much much much better O, its not even close.   In D, boston may have a slight, and i mean barely perceptible, advantage.  its negligible with Chicago's D and G together, cuz I'd say the Goalies are about even.

wwwoooww dude, Dageauvich or whatever his name is.  He had not only a tic tac toe wide open goal, that for only god knows he didnt take....then he dangles and has an open net on the other side, and trips himself getting all fancy.  he had the game.  ive never seen a play like that where the guy doenst score.

Re: [Madness Writers] 6/13/2013 04:58:00 AM

yeah, boston had a lot more O in OT osmehow.  Id say from watching OT1 they were on par wit hChicago, at best.

they had a few breakaways (or what should have been breakaways but the Boston guys held on too long for no reason)

one chicago guy was IN THE HIGH SLOT WIDE OPEN WIT HTHE PUCK and fucking passes it near boards.  the 6 guys watching at the rink with me were all going crazy.  even we dont do that man.

i didnt even wanna watcH OT1, but stayed.  after that, we all left.  was getting late.  no internet, couldnt watch it.  sucks man.  ognna watch the highlights.

i scored a breakaway in real hockey.  screamed "MIDDLE!" and shot up ice, best guy in the league hesitated, passed it to the LW, i was RW), it went through a bunch of skates free to the O zone, im behind D, grab it, dangle a few times lookin at net, shortside.  no idea how it got through the goalie.  must have went armpit. didnt look like any opening.

earlier in the game i was on a breakaway, far right though, didndt have much of a shot.   shoot it, hits the post/outside goal to behind net.  I was flying.  was off balance and tried to stop, couldnt, and slammed into the boards pretty hard.  helmet fell off, they whistled play dead.  oh well.  but my right hand bottom thumb hurts pretty good. cant put much pressure on it.

ill write more after watching these highluights.,

bylsma with the 2 year extension.  another nail in my penguins coffin.  i dont care if his 67.1% winning does my laundry, he doesn't adapt in the playoffs and gets out-coached. coaching and D wins championships, not O.

police found the bike.  Down the road about 3 or 4 blocks.  whoever took it cut the wires, fucked up the ignition/lock.  can't get the key in.  gonna have to pay the 250 deductible, but the insurance is paying to get it towed to the servicer.

at least I have the other bike, 2007 with about 4800 miles on it.  $1700.  Mike tried talking him into  buying your bike, usinga lot of psychological principles to lure him in.  no idea why. kept them busy talking though.

boooom. I put up the xbox ($100), halo (18), and nhl (30) about 2-3 hours ago, already sold. booooom. on amazon. Gonna make me about $125 I guess. Not too shabby. I just wanna get rid of them.
haha. that's one way of looking at it.

I can tell you now, I'm not watching every regular season game. I probably won't even bother to watch a quarter of them. I'll watch the playoffs, that's about it. I see why people don't watch every game. Build up the suspense of "hey, we're gonna win the cup" and then "fuck you fans, we suck" If I wouldh ave watched last year's series vs. Philly, I probably would have been done iwht them after last summer.

I'm gonna invest my time into something worthwhile. Doesn't matter after next year since school will be in session anyway.

TuckerMax and other people made posts about why watching sports is stupid because the organizations don't care about the fans and don't give anything back to them. I disagree with that wholeheartedly. They provide entertainment. That's what people want. Yeah, the organizations dont really care about the individual fan. WHo cares. I'd say the Penguins treat their fans pretty well, but in the end, it's the Cup we want. call me a bandwagoner all you want. When I played hockey, I played to win every fucking shift. I might not have been great, but I made things happen, especially defensively.

Re: [Madness Writers] 6/09/2013 04:23:00 AM

eh, no way boston is winning it.

bylsma should be gone, fleury definitely is.   i have no interest in the penguins. zero.

i dont care who they get rid of or trade.  blow up the team for all i care and go back to the dark ages.  wouldnt bother me, cuz im not gonna be around to see it.

looks like the finals start on Wednesday

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/chicago-blackhawks-end-kings-reign-win-conference-title-042742603.html wow, what a play by the Hawks, terrible goaltending by Quick. Well, not really I guess.. just out of position 'cause it was a 2 on 1.

Pretty sure Bylsma is gone. He can't adapt. Why keep him? They need somebody fresh who is gonna actually coach. I like Bylsma, but he isn't the coach who's gonna bring home the 4th Cup. Fluery definitely needs to be gone. He's gonna get moved before Bylsma.

quick: let's play a game! Who's gonna get traded?

Malkin - wouldn't be surprised. but i doubt it

Letang - wouldn't be surprised. he's a Dman who doesn't play D

Morrow - Gone.

Murray - doubtful, too physical

Jokinen - doubtful. Canes are paying his contract for next year right?

Iginla - gone, unless crosby wants him.

Bylsma - I'd say gone. Get somebody fresh who can adapt. Bylsma has shown that he cannot. Look at the Islanders and Bruins for examples.

Fleury - I'd trade him in a heartbeat. No use for him anymore. If you can't rely on him for four years, why take the chance on a fifth?

Crosby - no way in hell

Adams - nope.

Dupuis/Kunitz - nope, unless they want more money.

Sutter - good third line center, can't see him gone. cheaper than staalsy.

niskanen - no way

eaton - i dobut it, he's reliable

orpik - he'll stay like he has the past 11 or 12 years.

Martin - definitely staying.

Kennedy - who knows, i'd say trade him

Glass - gone.

Vokoun - he should be the starter. or at least split the games 50/50.

cooke - staying

bennett - staying

neal - staying. i think if he stays, malkin stays

vitale - good 4th liner

engelland - probably staying but he could be a trade asset

despres and bortuzzo - no way they're getting traded. young talent

pens lost, woooo. what a finish, though. Malkin with that awesome move that got shut down by Chara. I was telling Emily on thew ay home "I should really go online and bet for Chicago, that's a guaranteed moneymaker." Should I? I wouldn't say it's guaranteed, haha, but I don't want Boston to win. With their shutdown D, Boston is gonna be tough to beat. No idea how they let Toronto take them to the brink.

Drove 90 mph mpretty much the whole way to work on the turnpike/parkway. got stuck in construction at the tunnel, still made it here in 31 minutes. a new record. I made it home at least 3 times in 32 minutes in my car but that's on Saturday/Sunday mornings with no traffic. That was only going like 80 mph.. still way too fast for route 30. I never take route 30 anymore unless it's weekend morning on the way home, too many frickin' red lights and a high risk of cop activity

I'm gonna find some worthwhile blogs and short stories today at work. TuckerMax.. I read a lot of his articles last night. Like I've said before, he's obviously an above average intelligent dude. He knows what's he's talking about. Glad to see he's changed his ways from that fratire crap. I'm pretty sure it's harmed his reputation past the point of return, though.

I asked Walton to take me through his training routine. Our weightlifting session lasted 20 minutes and consisted of bicep curls, shoulder shrugs, and bench presses. When I asked what he did for lower body workouts, he said, "Typically, I do a lot of legs."

hahahahaha.

I did a lot of squats today with abs and 4 sets of pushups, 68 or 69 total. Most I've done in my life, probably.  Felt good, too.  I'm probably gonna stick to doing my body-weight exercises or really low weight.  Seems to help avoid pain.

Let's set aside the fact that the dude looks nothing like me, but EXACTLY like a young Conan O'Brien. Fine, whatever. Everything about him is just so…off. His mannerisms, his demeanor, his deportment. At my fucking worst, I was no where near…that. The guy that Abe plays on stage would get his fucking ass kicked every day.

I will even say this: If that's me–if Abe is playing me the way I actually am, or have been at any point in my life–then I want to kick my own ass. That's how much I hate the dude he is playing

hahahahahhaa

The Prestige - I saw it before like 6 years ago and didn't figure it out. I must have fallen asleep 'cause the movie explains it all pretty clearly.  Anyway, there's obviuosly a twist at the end which probably could be figured out but 99.999% of people wouldn't get it.   Entertaining movie.

The fact that there is a character that plays a small recurrent role obviuosly had something to do with it. I figured that part out. Coudln't figure out what his role was, though.
didnt notice it last night...what i did notice was neal not going for hte puck when Malkin clearly didnt have possession... but that Jagr hook was the most blatant hook i've ever seen.

fuck the bruins.

they have no shot at the cup, good luck with that.

where the hell do red wings fans come from with bullshit like this:

"Of these teams that have advanced respectively, they did so through hard work and focus. But they all similarly got lucky/unlucky like a poker player wins/loses a big card tournament. Both of those series could have gone either way. The Hawks did slightly underachieve. We certainly did ride a wave of confidence into the playoffs. The Ducks? Well, they were a roller coaster of a team all year imo."

emphasis not mine.

Well, asshat, the series went the way they did, whats your point?   then the next comment is a real humdinger:

"The road to the Stanley cup goes through Detroit."

Now, Strong said, he avoids even some PG-13 movies. "You never know what's going to come up on that screen, and once you see something, you can't get it out of your head. Ever." He thought a moment, then asked: "What's the name of that film?" I don't know what I expected him to say, but I was surprised when he said, " 'Wedding Crashers.' "

In high school, a friend persuaded him to sneak into the movie, and the nudity, as well as Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's general attitude toward women, shook him. After that, when he saw a girl, his first thoughts would be about whether she was attractive; he felt himself moving through the world essentially casting or rejecting its inhabitants as possible extras in "Wedding Crashers." You could argue that this was only the harmless awakening of a teenage male mind. But Strong didn't see it this way. In fact, he feels so uneasy about this stretch of his life that later, when he began dating his future wife, he made a point of discussing it with her. ("I had changed," he explained, "but I wanted anything like that to be open between us.") "In the L.D.S. church," he told me, "a really strong message is that everyone's a child of God — that they're a sacred individual. They're born into this world clean and pure and beautiful." "Wedding Crashers" altered his vision. He spent some time looking at the world through "Wedding Crashers"-colored glasses, and it was not only disrespectful of other people, he felt, but it also deprived him of experiencing them in a more genuine way. Why couldn't films subconsciously encourage us to use the eyes that God gave us instead? "To view people through that window puts a positive, beautiful spin on your life," he said.

hahahahaha, really kid? yeah, those movies probably influence us negatively, but you gotta use your own mind, buddy. walkin' around judging people based on looks? I'll say this - I see a lot of overweight people, especially those 30+ years old. I don't think of them as fat but rather cogs stuck in the family-and-job machine with some laziness thrown in. doesnt' take much to eat right and exercise, but it's not exactly fun either for most people.

Then in 2010 and 2011 they're up like 3-1 or 3-2 and lose? come on, on home ice? 2012 i only saw game 1 and parts of games 3 and 4 i think. glad i didn't watch that series. no interest in this series either. I'm probbaly done with hockey after this playoffs. At least with the Pens. Not putting that much time into it anymore.

i bottled my cider and beer last night.

46 bottles cider, 51 beer.  should be better than the last one i made, which everyone likes but i know it isnt the best.

cider is extremely sweet.  i dont really like it.  i made a new batch last night.  takes about as long as filling up the big bottle with apple juice and brown sugar.

extremely tired of people saying nhl/bettman wants crosby and the pens in the finals.

there's zero evidence of that.  not even an argument.   nhl fans are the worst.  ruin any excitement for the game.

Pretty sure I'm done with hockey after this season. I'm not investing my emotional energies into something that has no real benefits and only a sure let down. At least Detroit, even though they suck, put up a much better fight than they really should have. With the Pens' roster/coaching/GM, they should have it all in the bag. A gift. Hell yeah, we expect them to win. Detroit wasn't gonna win and they knew it, but they put up a fight. Pens .. who knows what they're thinking. I know in the winter I'll probably still watch them 'cause it's too cold to wanna go outside, but the regular season games are pointless unless you go to the Consol. The urge to watch will burn throughotu the season. I'll have to find something else to waste my time on. Andy and me, buddy!

I've been thinking for a few weeks that i can't wait for hockey to be over, and it was only a half-season. No wonder every year around January-February I stop watching for a bit. Too many games. I give credit to the pens bloggers (PenguinPoop, PensBlog, a few others), christ, how can you watch and analyze all of those games? If I did, it'd be to study the game to really know how it works and then go coach a youth team or something.

The Yahoo Staff's prognostications were interesting - most of them had the Bruins vs. San Jose in the Finals. neither team made it out of the 2nd round, I do believe. One guy had Pens vs. Calgary. no idea how anyone could have taken that seriously. I can't find the Staff Prognostifications for the 2009 stanley cup east finals of Pens vs. Hurricans, but I bet they have it Pens in 6 for most of the people. At one point in the above article, the writer mentions something like "The penguins have the depth to match up wtih Carolina." hhahahahahahaha.. they destroyed them, wasn't even close. It was like the Ottawa series almost. Too bad they lost game 3 'cause it should have been a broom-buster. At least they'll have a challenge for once starting in 25.5 hours.

Mike wanted to go somehwere to watch the game, but I was thinking of either going to the neighbor's or Sean's. I'd argue going to the big screen, but an 8 pm start kinda ruins that with Andy.
