dang. giroux with 4 pts tonight. 1.48 p/g, malkin with 1.44.  giroux played against carolina, that almost doesnt even count.  worst team in the league i believe. well, 4 pts ahead of anaheim and coljumbus, but also 2 more games, could be tied for worst.

rick on pensblog defended the outcry against Engelland. theres absolutely no way you can not defend engelland on that hit.  no matter what he did he was gonna hiot that guy in the head.  let him skate by? rick says engo left his feet...hahahaha, no idea what he was watching.  his foot only leaves the ice after the ice, as anyone would do on that kind of hit.  leaping into someone and leaving your feet AFTER a hit are two different things.  rick also says to give him a game or two.  thers absolutely no way.  no way man.  as the first pensblogger wrote, thats not a headSHOT, sure he hits him in the head, but you cant tell me he had any other option other than to stop playing hockey and let him skate by.   but unfortunately, it was a national broadcast and thats literally the main reason he'll probably get suspended.  im sayin that hit was a perfectly legal hockey hit.  dont fuckin keep your head down and forward like that and you wont get taken out of the game.  just sayin.

if everyone skated with their head down and leaning forward lik e that, you'd have a lot of suspensions.

1.he doesnt leave his feet before the hit.
2. he doesnt leap into him.
3. sure as hell wasnt headhunting.
4/ was playing his position.  Defense. defending his zone.
5. guy had his head down and leaning forward.

rick says to stop playing hockey.  no idea how anyone could even say that. nhl folks still fight for their slot.

wheres the carlson review?  wheres the rinaldo review?

what a fuckin joke man.

"that rinaldo hit was complete rubbish, completely outside of the game of hockey.
the engelland hit, i'd argue that's at least a hockey play.  call it rubbish if you want, he wasnt headhunting, he didnt leave his feet (at least not until after he hit poor Freddy)
i ask this of you, sir.  you're a defenseman.  a puck carrier is entering your zone. your teammate hasn't contained him and you're the last line of defense. what do you do?
at least two options but feel free to offer more.
a) you consider not playing your position. you hope and pray your teammate can somehow contain him. you possibly and highly likely give the attacking team a scoring opportunity.
b)  you decide to play your position. seems like wise hockey mentality.  you line up your hit. as you do, this attacking puck carrier has his head down and leaning forward.  you hit him...call it high since its a forearm to the face, call it low considering the circumstances, doesnt matter...the guy flies off the puck and into the boards.  you effectively defend your zone.
c) offer another or more.
consider.  Engelland lets up before he hits him as witnessed by the snow at his feet considerably before hit, and yet still hits him pretty hard.  not sure how thats charging.  charging is taking three or more strides to completely demolish someone.
the game is very fast.  maybe engelland was supposed to hold the guy's hand to prevent him from flying into the boards.  or show him how to bend his knees more rather than lean forward.

also, engellands feet come off the ice barely, suggesting he wasnt leaping into the guy.  he was leaning into his check.  sure he hit him high but he gave Freddy an explosive check.

not the best check perhaps, but no way thats head hunting, no way thats terrible, no way thats even worth talking about.

and if you watch closely, engelland hits his head off the ice after falling into a heap, got tied up with freddy in the fall. surprised he didnt give himself a concussion.
