statistics to pull the goalie at 5 min losing by 2? staistically it'll work over an 82 game season? first off, that situation doesnt happen very often. most teams lose a little more than half the times they win. so thats like 30 losses, id guess theres a good bit of 1 goal games, a few blowouts...maybe a dozen 2 goal losses at best... so its actually like a 10 game 0-2 score season...
anyway, doesnt even matter. you have much better net presence with teh goalie, say you score with 4 min left, 3 min, even 2 min...you statistically kept your losses at a minimum (no empty net) while keeping your chances for success the same.
the other way, you kill your defense by minimally increasing your offense. i'd never pull my goalie with 5 min to go.
