in monterey there was a red light (on a one way street) at a 4 way intesection, but you could make a left onto the perpendicular one way street at a red light. only from a one way street to anotehr one way street can you make a left on red.
if you're on a two way street cars can turn in front of you to get in the parallel lane beside you.
