Pens have a stat called LRA - line rushes against, they try to have a forward help the D out so they can't get a 2 on 2. i guess they keep their 3rd forward back further in the D zone to help when the puck gets turned over. works out really well. .those kinda strategies are effective but you'd have to definitely make different stragtegies for different circumstances.

Pens are 28-0-3 when leading after 2. no way they're losing
