for national security interests, what's a government's imperative? spending 4+ trillion on two wars (interesting fact: 20$ billion+ on AC alone) to build up other countries, or using that money in other ways to build up the government's own country? or some mix of the two.
the only way the US could build up Afghanistan is to pretty much own that country. it was the third poorest in the world 2 years ago, probably still down near that level now. why even bother. thats halfway across the globe.
iraq is somewhat different, at least it has oil to build an economy. and if the US took a much harder stance against Iran then it wouldnt have lasted anywhere as long as it did.
