The best precaution to take when riding at night is:

Maintain your speed to prevent being struck from behind.

Move closer to the vehicle in front of you.


Slow down so that you can easily stop within range of your headlights.


really stupid question.  first, my headlights arent the brightest, so i wouldnt be going very fast on a highway if i had to stop at the range of em.  all cars have different ranges.  heathers beetle sucked for lights, prius is sweet.  moonlight can reveal a shit load...so that defeats headlights in all situations (unless its pitch black out, very rare).
